Mark Barden and Nicole Hockley — both parents of children who were killed — have pushed for change. - Barden, who lost his 7-year-old son, Daniel, calls it a "preventable shooting epidemic."
Barden and Hockley — who lost her 6-year-old son, Dylan — helped start Sandy Hook Promise, a nonprofit that teaches students and teachers about warning signs that someone might attempt to harm others. - The nonprofit says its programs have led to "2,900+ mental health interventions saving at least 378 students from suicide."
🖼️ The big picture: Peter Ambler — executive director of Giffords, the gun-violence prevention group he co-founded with former Rep. Gabby Giffords, who survived a gunman's attack in 2011 — is on Capitol Hill today to talk to lawmakers about the movement's "next decade." - "The Sandy Hook shooting was a tragedy of historic proportions," Ambler told Mike Allen at breakfast this morning.
