Happy Monday, Illinois. It’s such a busy week, but I’m most worried I’ll forget Wordle.

GO TIME: The Democratic National Convention has arrived in Chicago and delegates are gearing up for a busy week of meetings and parties, with an emphasis on parties.

Headliner alert: Vice President Kamala Harris landed in Chicago Sunday ahead of the convention. Greeting her: Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton and the Illinois delegation. Pic! President Joe Biden lands today. Harris will be in and out with a quick campaign stop tomorrow in Milwaukee.

Road to the convention: Getting to this point was rough for Democrats after much hand-wringing over whether Biden should stay at the top of the ticket. Turns out the pivot to Harris was fairly smooth, though convention planners had to tear up some of their plans.

Speaker line-ups changed, videos were re-shot and messaging has been carefully tweaked. It’s a “delicate balance” of introducing Harris to the world while also giving Biden his due, insiders told POLITICO’s Eugene Daniels and your Playbook host.

Our story: Convention reinvents itself for new headliner

It’s the first in-person convention Democrats have had in eight years, so they’re excited. Still, there’s some angst about what lies ahead, as our POLITICO’s Lisa Kashinsky and team report.

And here's a look at some of the Illinois delegates from the suburbs, by the Daily Herald’s Russell Lissau.

Everyone wants to know who’s taking the stage, but convention organizers are holding off on sharing all the details. On deck tonight: President Joe Biden headlines after first lady Jill Biden, Mayor Brandon Johnson and (reportedly) Hillary Clinton.

Celebrities will be part of the mix, too, per CNN.

The head-turner: Adam Kinzinger, the Republican former congressman from Illinois, will appear on stage on Thursday ahead of Harris' speech, reports CNN.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth is set to speak Tuesday on the issue of IVF, via the Sun-Times.

Can I hear an amen: Chicago Ald. William Hall will say the benediction on Wednesday of the convention. He’s a pastor at St. James Community Church.

PARTIES

— SCOOP: Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton headlined a fundraiser in the northern suburbs on Sunday.

— SCOOP: Convention Host Committee Chair Michael Sacks and his philanthropist wife Cari, along with Host Committee Executive Director Christy George, fundraising guru Leah Israel and Sacks COS and Obama vet Sally Armbruster are hosting a DNC Send Off party Thursday night at the Salt Shed with musical guest Brandi Carlile.

A grand hat tip: “We couldn't think of a better way to thank everyone who helped us to make this a great week for the DNC, the ticket in November and for the city than a great send off party,” Sacks told PLAYBOOK. “When we found out Brandi was available we asked Crooked Media to let us take the night (that they initially had) and handle the planning. It’s going to be a blast,” he said.

— Black Caucus: Congresswoman Robin Kelly hosted a welcome reception on behalf of the Congressional Black Caucus at Pizzeria Portofino on the Chicago River on Sunday. Kelly arranged for the Anita Dee Yacht Charters to dock next to the restaurant to accommodate the overflow crowd. Speakers: Gov. JB Pritzker, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York and Congressional Black Caucus Chair Steven Horsford of Nevada.

Spotted: Sens. Dick Durbin and Corey Booker, DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene, Illinois Atty Gen. Kwame Raoul, Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Missouri Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, former Congresswoman Val Demings, Illinois state Rep. Camille Lilly and Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia.

— Pre-gavel party today: Cook County Board Chair Toni Preckwinkle, Dupage County Board Chair Deborah Conroy and Will County CEO Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant will be feted at a pre-gavel welcoming party put on by lobbyists John Kelly and Chip Humes and attorney Scott Marquardt. Details here

— Thursday watch party: State Rep. Lindsey LaPointe, state Sen. Robert Martwick, Ald. Ruth Cruz and Committeeperson Michael Rabbitt are hosting. Details here

2024 WATCH

— Kwame Raoul, the Illinois attorney general, talked about taking part in the recent Black Men for Harris fundraising call that raised more than $1 million. During the call, Raoul addressed the “misogyny” among some who oppose Harris because she’s a woman. “I'm the father of a 24-year-old Black woman who's in law school,” he said, adding if he didn’t “fully support” Harris, a former prosecutor, “as a Black dad to a Black young woman, I’m not doing my job,” he told CBS News.
