I hope you’ve been well over there. 🙂 I haven’t said anything publicly about this until now, but yesterday in a special online conversation with Susan Cain, I mentioned my next book for the very first time. I figured it would only be fair to tell you about it as well, since the community that we’ve been building here has been so awesome. So here’s what I’m up to: I’m writing a book about TIME ANXIETY, and it will come out in early 2025.Consider this a pre-announcement, because the book won’t be out for 11 months, and it’s not even available for pre-order anywhere yet. We have a long way to go until any sort of promotional phase kicks in. Later in the year I’ll say more, but for now—I’m still writing and editing. That said, if you’d like to be part of the process (which would be awesome!), there’s something simple you can do. It will just take a few minutes of your time. Take the 2024 Time Anxiety survey: LinkWhat Is Time Anxiety?(This question is part of what I’m asking in the survey—how YOU experience time anxiety—so I don’t want to bias your answer. But for now, here’s a short description.) Time anxiety is the fear of running out of time: both existentially and in the sense of day-by-day life. If you’ve ever felt “There’s something I should be doing, but I’m not sure what it is or how to choose”—that’s time anxiety. There are also other forms of it, such as feeling too late for something, being chronically indecisive, and going through the day with a sense of low-grade angst or frustration. A couple years ago, when I was in the early stages of research for this project, I did a different survey and taught an introductory course on the topic. What I learned during that process was truly fascinating. I’ve been doing reader surveys for almost two decades (!) and this one produced the most interesting results I’d ever seen. It’s been a while since the last time I checked in with readers on the topic, so I thought I’d “re-up” it for a new year. Therefore: here’s a new survey with a few updated questions. Most of them are fairly broad, because I’d like to know how time anxiety feels to you. SURVEY: 2024 Time Anxiety SurveyOf course, if you don’t have time—I get it! I don’t want my survey about time anxiety to cause any distress. :) Coming up on Wednesday: if you always struggled to learn math, it might not be your fault.
