MANILA, Philippines — Confusion and anxiety marked the first day of the "Brigada Eskwela" campaign in some of the 14 Makati public schools caught in the middle of the city's turf war with Taguig on Monday. At Makati Science High School (MSHS), Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano kicked off the annual school maintenance drive before a crowd of volunteers wearing white shirts on which "Taguig Brigada Eskwela" were printed.

China says PH yet to respond to talks


A Chinese Embassy official on Monday reiterated anew an earlier claim that the Philippines had committed to remove its grounded vessel at Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal. Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister Counselor Zhou Zhiyong also said Beijing had been reaching out to Manila but it had yet to respond to China's proposed bilateral talks on tensions in the South China Sea.

Fuel price hikes to continue–DOE


Production cuts in major oil exporter Saudi Arabia again pushed local oil companies to raise the pump prices of petroleum products for the sixth week in a row on Tuesday, with prices climbing by up to P2.50 per liter. The Department of Energy (DOE) says the price increases will likely persist for two more months as global demand for crude oil steadily increases in the second half of the year.

PNP reforms not good enough​​


The PNP must lead by example by showing that the law also applies to their own ranks. As long as the public thinks the PNP is protecting its own, its rogue image will never be repaired and trust will be withheld. The bad eggs in the organization will continue their errant ways, knowing they can always get off lightly.
