TOP NEWS The first president to get raided by the FBI Charles Trainor Jr./Miami Herald/Tribune News Service via Getty Images The FBI searched former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on Monday, reportedly for classified documents. [Associated Press / Zeke Miller, Eric Tucker, and Michael Balsamo] The Presidential Records Act requires presidents to keep administration records and submit them to the National Archives. So after the Archives recovered 15 boxes containing classified information from Trump's Florida home earlier this year, the Department of Justice began an investigation.  [New York Times / Maggie Haberman, Ben Protess, and Adam Goldman] The Justice Department is also probing Trump's connection to efforts to overturn the 2020 election, including the January 6, 2021, attack at the Capitol. [CNN ] It's unclear if Trump will face charges over the records. However, obtaining a warrant requires convincing a judge that a potential crime has occurred, and that a search could uncover further evidence. [BBC] Some legal experts say federal law would disqualify Trump from ever holding public office again if he's found guilty of intentionally mishandling classified documents, though other experts disagree. [Washington Post / Amber Phillips] Taiwan: China is rehearsing an invasion Tuesday, Taiwan's foreign minister said China is using House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's recent Taiwan visit to justify military exercises in preparation for a future invasion. [Washington Post / Lily Kuo] The official, Joseph Wu, also accused China of committing cyberattacks and spreading disinformation to lower morale among the Taiwanese public. [Reuters / Sarah Wu and Yimou Lee] Tensions have flared over Pelosi's visit, since Beijing considers the self-governing island as a part of China it can reclaim with force. [BBC] Despite the escalation, the Pentagon said Monday that they still believe China isn't planning to invade Taiwan in the next two years. [Politico / Lara Seligman] MISCELLANEOUS The FDA has expanded monkeypox vaccine guidance to allow intradermal injections, between layers of skin; such injections could allow five times as many people to be inoculated.
