PCG on Escoda: ‘We did not abandon anything’

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday said that it had not given up on Escoda (Sabina) Shoal despite pulling out its ship there after a record-setting five months of deployment. ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌     ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌     ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌     ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌     ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌      ͏ ‌

Hi there. PCG denies losing Escoda Shoal: 'We did not abandon anything'

Despite pulling out its ship from Escoda Shoal after a record-setting five months of deployment there,  the Philippine Coast Guard said it would still keep its presence in the shoal: "We have not lost anything... [It] is still part of our exclusive economic zone."

Was that a swipe at VP Sara Duterte? Speaker Martin Romualdez on Monday vowed that all agencies would undergo stringent budget scrutiny by the House, and scored "critics who speak of accountability while conveniently ignoring their own misuse of public funds."

Another fire hit the Philippine General Hospital—the third so far this year—on Monday morning, the blaze starting around 6 a.m. in one of the rooms at the mezzanine of the main building, forcing the temporary evacuation of many patients.

Two cyclones — Tropical Depression "Gener," likely to make landfall in Isabela or Aurora province by Tuesday morning, and Tropical Storm "Pulasan," projected to remain far from Luzon's landmass — are expected to bring heavy rains, according to Pagasa.

Another assassination attempt was made against Donald Trump, this time while he was golfing in Florida, just two months after the Republican presidential candidate was shot at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, sustaining a minor injury to his right ear.

Soft skills in an AI future

While workers will need the hard skills for navigating new tools and systems, soft skills will complement them by fostering adaptability and human-centered problem-solving, which machines can never replace. AI can do the data-driven tasks, but it is human creativity and ability to think outside the box that leads to breakthroughs.

OSG challenges harassment claim by Baguio activists

BAGUIO CITY—Lawyers from the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) on Monday questioned allegations of government harassment committed against four indigenous Filipino activists who have challenged the Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC) and the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) before a Baguio court for designating them as terrorists "without due process" in July 7 last year.

Morning walks around Baguio

Since my discharge from the hospital after a mild stroke in April 2021, walking has become my daily chore and morning routine. With a few interventions at first by a therapist who coached me on basic recovery steps like working out with a stationary bike and stretching rubber cords, I convinced myself to do daily morning walks, with a few minutes of yoga postures to calm down.
