Tuesday night sure felt like the crescendo of the Democratic National Convention, yet we still have two days to go before Kamala Harris accepts the presidential nomination. It was a night of big sweeping and slashing speeches by former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama in the city they still call home. Gov. JB Pritzker and Sen. Tammy Duckworth also had top spots in the line-up after a boisterous convention roll call. Michelle Obama wowed: In a poignant moment, she paid tribute to her mother, who died just two months ago, saying she wasn’t exactly up for taking the stage but she wanted to for Harris. Her big line: “Kamala Harris is more than ready for this moment,” Michelle Obama said. “She is one of the most qualified people ever to seek the office of the presidency. And she is one of the most dignified — a tribute to her mother, to my mother and probably to your mother, too.” The crowd erupted in applause.
