According to recent federal figures, wind and solar power have produced more electricity than coal for the first time in the United States. In the first five months of 2023, coal produced 249 terawatt-hours, while wind and solar generated a combined 252 TWh, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) obtained by E&E News. The performance of renewable energy has now surpassed coal for the first time without considering hydroelectric power. The achievement results from coal use in the United States continuing to drop as coal facilities close and are replaced by natural gas and renewable energy sources. (read more)

After votes on May 16, there was a tie for a spot on the Hubbard Rural Fire Protection District board, with Trump and four other candidates receiving two write-in votes apiece. On the five-person board, three slots were up for grabs. Michelle Luna and Michael Willis were the only registered candidates, and both were re-elected. A dice throw broke the tie for "Hubbard Fire District Board Director Position No. 3" on June 23 — and Trump won. Trump is the Republican presidential frontrunner, therefore he is unlikely to accept the unpaid position in the tiny rural town. A candidate must also possess property or live in the district.

No matter where it comes from, most investors adore income. It's reasonable to say that investors may adore income more than ever right now given the continued high levels of inflation and uncertainty. One of the numerous advantages of blue-chip dividend stocks is that. They offer steady dividend income in both good and bad economic times. Blue-chip companies have a track record of consistent, excellent performance that endures economic cycles and stands the test of time. In other words, investors find dependability in these names even though it is typically hard to find. The plus side is that many of these businesses have significant development potential in addition to paying income. A man in Florida identified only as Nick was on a quiet fishing trip in the Everglades when the unthinkable happened: he was pulled out of the boat by a shark. The man was trying to briefly wash his hands in the water when someone else on the boat told him not to put his hands in the water. Nick responded with "two seconds won't do anything." Shortly after splashing a bit while cleaning his hands, a huge shark grabbed his hands and pulled him into the water. "Today was one of the scariest days on the water I have ever had. It started off great and we were crushing the fish but the sharks were eating some, despite our best efforts," Nick's friend Michael Russo explained. "After releasing a snook, Nick washed his hands in the water and was immediately bit by a large [lemon] shark. There was no chum or blood in the water and the sharks were unprovoked." The entire ordeal was caught on video and shows the unprovoked attack and how it ended. (read more) |

Earlier this week, police received a tip and were able to find Isbell's remains at Little River Canyon National Preserve.
