Remulla: Duterte, Bato better skip states with ICC reach


Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Wednesday advised former President Rodrigo Duterte and Sen. Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa to avoid going to countries where the International Criminal Court (ICC) could exert its influence, following its July 18 ruling authorizing an investigation into Duterte's brutal war on drugs.

Red-tagged Araullo sues for damages


Veteran activist Carol Pagaduan Araullo is seeking P2 million in damages from former anti-insurgency task force spokesperson Lorraine Badoy and confessed communist rebel Jeffrey Celiz for "their incessant and wanton Red-tagging." In a civil complaint filed in Quezon City on Wednesday, Araullo accused them of abusing freedom of speech on their show and on social media.

Mindoro oil spill woes 'far from over'


The environmental crisis caused by the sinking of an oil tanker off Oriental Mindoro in February is "far from over," according to environmentalists and local officials, as they continue to monitor oil residue in Pola town. The Philippine Coast Guard earlier declared that oil removal and recovery operations had been completed, but Pola's mayor said lumps of solidified tar still marked the shorelines.

Important review of reclamations 


Clearly, there are policy and implementation issues that have to be resolved, with the DENR moving in the right direction. It is a welcome, albeit long overdue, development that deserves wide support, if only to ensure that future generations won't pay too high a price for these reclamation projects.
