NIGHTMARE: RBLX Goes Down for DAYS

And don't get me started on American Airlines...

People are more pessimistic than previously thought.

That's the takeaway from a new study making the rounds... and it's something that I think has a big impact on understanding trading.

You can read the full study in the journal Cognition, but the basic case is that research which supposedly showed people were optimistic was fatally flawed.

People aren't naturally optimistic...

Or at least there's not the evidence to prove it yet.

Still, I think all this misses the big question...

How do people process new information?

There is a great deal of evidence that shows people put new information into pre-existing worldviews...

Even if that evidence disproves your worldview.

I think that tells us a lot about how the market works today. Even with entirely new kinds of assets taking over markets, people are still trying to use the same old formulas.

And this may be linked to a kind of pessimism... an idea that things really can't change for the better.

My take is different. The opportunities in the current market, from crypto to blue chips, are greater than ever before...

There are trillions of dollars coming down the pipeline that are just waiting to be scooped up.

And if people are still committed to a pessimistic, unoriginal view of the market, that only INCREASES our chances to score huge wins.

As we say over and over again, it's all about mindset.

Stay hungry, stay open-minded, and stay optimistic.

Every day is another chance for a life-changing win.

Maybe more than one.

WORD ON THE STREET
Airline Hell, Showdown In Virginia, $6 Billion Man

  • Southwest Airlines Breathes A Sigh Of Relief - It wasn't that long ago that Southwest Airlines (LUV) was probably the most hated airline in America. However, the crown has passed. Now, it's American Airlines (AAL) that's suffering from catastrophic cancellations, with more than 600 flights scrapped. The airline is blaming weather issues for creating shortfalls among its staff.

  • Democrats Struggle To Hold The Old Dominion - Democrats are officially nervous. Former governor Terry McAuliffe has run a lackluster campaign in Virginia, a state Joe Biden easily won in 2020. This included a political stunt that backfired spectacularly last week. (And let's not get into his dancing). Nonetheless, Republican Glenn Youngkin still needs to overcome the powerful liberal stronghold in northern Virginia as well as Democratic voters who don't want to give the Party of Trump a victory. Investors are paying close attention to this race... a defeat here could divide the Democrats just when it needs to unite to pass a spending bill in Congress.
  • Bluff Status: Called - Elon Musk is the world's richest man but he still tweets like a teenager who refuses to leave his parents' house. Nonetheless, you can't deny he gets things done and usually rises to meet a challenge. Following a charge from the UN World Food Programme that a mere $6 billion of Musk's fortune could end world hunger, Musk fired back at for the organization to prove it. If it could, he said he'd send it. Furthermore, Musk called for the entire program's budget to be made public.

  • Roblox Goes Down - It was a true Halloween nightmare for parents who wanted a few moments peace. The popular online platform Roblox (RBLX) went down for days, only coming back on Sunday night for most people. The company vaguely blamed an "internal system issue." That's not going to be enough to calm furious users... or shareholders this morning.

HOT SPOTS: What's Going on in Geopolitics

  • Israel Starts Weeklong War Games - Israeli Armed Forces are participating in a week long exercise that will test troops' ability to respond to massive rocket launches and internal strife. Both are events that are quite plausible for the small nation. The exercises are expected to incorporate lessons learned from the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah during May 2021.

  • UK Ponders Life Without Her Majesty - Unfortunately, it appears that Queen Elizabeth II's condition may be serious. The Sovereign is reportedly being told to "rest" even as a major global climate change forum takes place. Her heir Prince Charles is making headlines by calling for "sustainable urban development" to meet the "climate emergency." If he becomes king, Charles would probably take a more openly political stance that Queen Elizabeth II has done during her reign. With luck, such questions won't be confronted soon - Britons are hoping the queen recovers to celebrate her "Platinum Jubilee" in February 2022 to mark 70 years on the throne.

  • Police Action Or Military Strike? - Brazilian police killed 25 people in a massive action against a huge criminal gang in Rio de Janeiro. It's the latest move as the government of President Bolsonaro grapples with increasingly sophisticated gangs armed with high-tech weaponry. Gangs have been unleashing what residents call "the new banditry," elaborate bank robberies executed with perfect timing and backed by terrifying force.
CUTTING EDGE: What's Happening In Tech

  • US-EU Steel Deal - On the surface, it's the end of a trade war between the United States and the European Union over steel. When you get into the fine print, it's something far more. The two global powers have committed to developing "the world's first carbon-based sectoral arrangement." This means that steel developers around the world will need to rework their production methods to hit environmental targets yet to be determined.

  • Facebook, Er,"Meta," Buys Supernatural - It's going to take a while to start calling Facebook by its new name. Meta has purchased Supernatural, which makes an app for the Oculus virtual reality platform that tracks a user's heart rate. It's an indication that Meta is looking to lean into the emerging fitness sector of the metaverse, conceivably allowing users to work out while being "in" futuristic or fantasy-based environments.

  • Saudi Arabia Building SuperCity - If you think the Kingdom is a relic of the past rather than a harbinger of the future, you couldn't be more wrong. Saudi Arabia has begun blasting rock and moving Earth as it strives to build its new supercity "Neom." The goal is for it to be ready to welcome visitors by the first quarter of 2024. "Neom" is intended to be a tech hub that will attract investment from all around the world.

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

"Well, I have one word for this bit of creative fiction. Horsepucky. Aside from yet another example of why a course in Drilling 101 needs to be taken by these lost souls, it is simply misinformation masking as analysis. Here is the real picture."

There's a great deal of nonsense on television right now about surging oil prices and how that is going to govern oil producers' behavior. Don't believe it. Instead, energy expert Dr. Kent Moors will show what's really happening, and how you can take advantage of it.
