RSVP now for next week's live event

Hello, book clubbers,

Every morning this week, I've woken up and looked at the window to see the world swallowed up by fog, dense as cotton wool. Fog, I think we can agree, is the most gothic of atmospheres — see Noemí's foggy graveyard walk in Mexican Gothic — so it is my firm belief that the weather gods have kindly arranged matters to line up with our reading schedule this month. If you haven't already checked out our discussion of the book, you can jump in here whenever you're ready!

COMING UP IN OCTOBER

We are just a week out from our live Zoom event with Silvia Moreno-Garcia! It's happening on Thursday, October 29, at 5 pm ET, and you can RSVP here.

THE WEEK IN BOOKS ON VOX

Two new movies based on books came out this week, and unfortunately, they are both bad. Aja Romano took on The Witches (which despite their no doubt correct opinion I might watch anyway, to see Anne Hathaway go full camp), and I reviewed the new Netflix adaptation of Rebecca (Kristin Scott Thomas also goes full camp, but I can tell you plainly it is not worth braving this movie just for her.)

Happy reading!
