LIVE! 3180.0 - Department of Health and Human Services' Global Health Workforce - On the Front Lines of Health Diplomacy During the Time of COVID-19 │ Monday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m. (MT) A small number of NIH employees are deployed internationally. This presentation will share a brief history of this small workforce, describe how they help strengthen relationships, build research capacity, and design more responsive partnerships to tackle the most complex health challenges of the 21st Century, and how they help meet the critical demands during the time of COVID-19. NCI Participant: Matthew Brown 2075.0 - Increasing awareness of cancer health information resources: A digital campaign NCI's Cancer Information Service (CIS) offers free and confidential services to anyone seeking information about cancer, including questions about clinical trials, symptoms, and more. In 2019, NCI launched an educational effort to raise awareness of this service. NCI used email marketing, leveraged internal stakeholders, and coordinated a paid media effort to promote CIS services. This presentation will review the results of the NCI's outreach strategies. NCI Participants: Meghan Alleyne and Candace Maynard 2041.0 - Radiation exposure during lactation and breast cancer risk in women exposed to chernobyl fallout The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident resulted in the contamination of large areas of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia from radioactive isotopes such as iodine, caesium, and others. In addition to the thyroid, iodine and thus radioiodine concentrates in the mammary glands of nursing women. Assessment of radiation-related risk of breast cancer in women exposed during lactation can inform regulatory standards and medical follow-up. NCI Participants: Vibha Vij, Elizabeth Cahoon, Mark P. Little, Kiyohiko Mabuchi, Rui Zhang, Vladimir Drozdovitch 3152.0 - Identifying opportunities to address liver cancer disparities: Portfolio analysis of epidemiology studies Significant disparities exist for liver cancer incidence and mortality and, for some groups, the disease incidence and mortality are rising. Multiple factors drive these disparities; however, the funding landscape for liver cancer disparities research has not been systematically evaluated. This presentation will identify areas of need for future research program funding so that resources can be distributed appropriately to reduce or eliminate disparities. NCI Participants: Travis Hyams, Brionna Hair, and Daniela Seminara Explore the APHA Interactive Expo Hall and visit the NCI virtual exhibit booth. The APHA Expo Hall can be accessed at any time but you can connect directly with NCI during these dedicated exhibit hours. - Sunday, Oct. 25: 1:30 - 5:30 p.m. (MT)
