Announcements Director's Message from Helene M. Langevin, M.D. January 6, 2025 In December 2024, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) celebrated the close of its 25th year with a special anniversary celebration and a remarkable program focused on the economics and imperatives of whole person health. As becomes alarmingly clearer with each passing year, the U.S. population is becoming less healthy, despite spending disproportionately more on health care compared to other industrialized nations. | Jennifer Baumgartner, Ph.D. January 8, 2025 The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) and its partners are excited to invite researchers and the public to attend Adapting Evidence-Based Mind and Body Interventions: Why, When, and How on February 12 and 13, 2025, virtually or on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Maryland. Registration for this scientific workshop is free. The goals of the workshop are to 1) understand the range of perspectives on why, when, and how mind and body interventions should be adapted to improve fit for different contexts and 2) inform priorities of NCCIH and our partners about why, when, and how research that involves adaptations of evidence-based interventions can be impactful for improving health and well-being. | Martina Schmidt, Ph.D. December 23, 2024 The National Advisory Council for Complementary and Integrative Health (NACCIH) will meet on Friday, January 24, 2025. The NACCIH is charged with advising, consulting with, and making recommendations to the director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) on matters relating to the Center's research activities and functions. The Open Session of this meeting will offer updates by NCCIH staff on the Center's activities, policies, and funding priorities. Two outside speakers on topics relevant to the Center are scheduled as well. We welcome our stakeholders, including members of the public, to attend the Open Session, which will be livestreamed on NIH VideoCast from 1 to 4:45 p.m. ET. February 12-13, 2024; Virtual or Masur Auditorium, Building 10, NIH Campus The purpose of this 2-day research workshop is to lay the groundwork on complex issues such as why adaptations of mind and body interventions are needed, when they should be made during the pipeline of research, and how to conduct adaptations rigorously. The goals of the workshop are to 1) understand the range of perspectives on why, when, and how mind and body interventions should be adapted to improve fit for specific contexts and 2) inform priorities of NCCIH and other components of NIH about why, when, and how research that involves adaptations of evidence-based interventions can be impactful for improving health and well-being. Although the workshop will focus on mind and body interventions, it will feature the perspectives of diverse fields.
