PH debt hit fresh record high

PH debt hit fresh record high of P 15.69T in July


Government debt rose to a new high of P15.69 trillion at the end of July, primarily driven by the issuance of new government securities and project loans. The growth, however, was partially offset by a stronger peso, the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) said on Tuesday.

S&P keeps 5.8% PH GDP growth forecast for 2024


Debt watcher S&P Global Ratings has kept its forecast of a 5.8-percent growth in the Philippines' gross domestic product (GDP) this year and 6.1 percent in 2025, on hopes private consumption will pick up. Both forecasts, however, are still below the government's 6 to 7 percent and 6.5 to 7.5 percent growth targets for 2024 and 2025, respectively.

Direct Manila-Paris flights eyed before end of 2024


Filipinos may be able to hop on a direct flight to Paris before the year ends as the Philippine government finalizes its talks with the French counterpart—a move that is seen to beef up tourism between the country and Europe. Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, in an event at the French Residence in Makati on Tuesday, said they would "make some announcements maybe in a few weeks."
