Hi there. COA tells DepEd: Return P12.3-B misused budget

More controversy at the Education department: The Commission on Audit has ordered DepEd to immediately settle "suspensions, disallowances, and charges" amounting to P12.3 billion from its 2023 budget due to "noncompliance with existing laws."

The verified number of deaths resulting from severe tropical storm "Enteng" has been lowered to 10 from the earlier reported 13. Naga City, Camarines Sur is now under a state of calamity after widespread flooding in at least 18 of its villages.

Human Rights Violations Victims Memorial Commission chair Chuck Crisanto has accused the University of the Philippines of "seeming foot-dragging" in the construction of the martial law museum planned to be built on UP grounds beginning June 2023.

At the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu in Cebu City, "improper" attire is out and a strict dress code is in, as the Augustinian Fathers running the church have banned spaghetti-strapped or barebacked pieces of clothing and short skirts by October.

Venezuela faces more unrest following a court's order to arrest opposition presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who says he won the July elections against Nicolas Maduro -- a claim supported by the opposition and much of the international community.

OPINION

DepEd's 'legacy of unresolved issues'

On top of the chronic problems with overcrowded classrooms, lack of textbooks, teachers, and school buildings, the Commission on Audit has discovered a multitude of irregularities at the frontline agency, among them the delays in the delivery of nutribun bread and pasteurized milk intended for schoolchildren in three regions as part of its P5.69-billion School-Based Feeding Program.

PH debt hit fresh record high of P15.69T in July

Government debt rose to a new high of P15.69 trillion at the end of July, primarily driven by new issuance of government securities and project loans, albeit partially offset by stronger peso, the Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) said on Tuesday.

Defending the right to defend from bullying

Eleven-year-old Zoe (not her real name) was an outstanding student at an exclusive girls' school. A 13-year-old hit her friend, so Zoe impulsively hit the bully back. Both girls got conduct penalties, but it didn't make a difference to the bully with lackluster academics. It did to Zoe, who lost her place for distinction.

Inch by inch, taking the short road to dominance

Last July 11, Changan Auto's flagship showroom and dealership along C5 in Pasig City was formally opened to the motoring public. The Changan Auto Pasig dealership, at 4,373 sqm, makes it the largest Changan dealership in the country. But what's more striking is what's behind the dealership.
