Hi there. Ex-DepEd procurement head says VP Sara gave her P50K monthly

Explosive testimony at the Senate on Wednesday as Gloria Mercado, former DepEd procurement head, claimed she was sent P50,000 monthly from VP Sara Duterte supposedly "to influence" her decisions on biddings — though she refused to call the cash a "bribe."

Still at the Senate, fireworks of another kind as Senators Alan Cayetano and Migs Zubiri almost came to blows —  over a resolution that seeks to allow residents of the 10 Embo barangays now in Cayetano's bailiwick Taguig City to cast votes.

Police Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, the Davao regional police director who led the relentless 16-day hunt for fugitive televangelist Apollo Quiboloy, has been promoted to acting director of the PNP's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

Pioneer progressive party-list group Akbayan, absent from Congress for over five years, is now back at the House after the Supreme Court upheld the 2019 Comelec resolution cancelling the registration of another party-list, An Waray.

Why does impunity persist? Because, says today's editorial, the Marcos administration has yet to show it is different from its predecessors "by explicitly forbidding the military, police, and other state actors from participating in enforced disappearances and EJKs."

They're no heartbreak kids

Anyone who has watched Far Eastern University's games so far this season would agree that the Tamaraws could have easily been sporting a 4-1 win-loss record at this point of the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament. Instead, they are 0-5, with a string of stinging setbacks in their wake.
