CMS Announces Release of State NOFO for the CGT Access Model

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the release of the State Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) Access Model, which will initially focus on gene therapies for sickle cell disease.

The NOFO, which announces the opportunity to apply for Cooperative Agreement funding to support participation in the CGT Access Model, will be open to all states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. To be considered for Cooperative Agreement funding, applicants must apply to participate in the model through the State Request for Applications (RFA) and apply for funding through the NOFO. Both applications are due by February 28, 2025. The anticipated award date is July 1, 2025.

The CGT Access Model aims to improve the lives of people with Medicaid living with rare and severe diseases by increasing their access to potentially life-changing treatments. The model will test whether a CMS-led approach to developing and administering outcomes-based agreements (OBAs) for cell and gene therapies improves Medicaid beneficiaries' health outcomes, broadens access to innovative treatment, and reduces health care expenditures.

More information about the NOFO and model can be found on the CGT Access Model webpage and in the Frequently Asked Questions. For updates on the model, please register for the model listserv.

Questions about the model can be submitted to CGTModel@cms.hhs.gov.
