Gavin Newsom on Monday announced the California government is cutting ties with Walgreens over the company's plans to stop selling abortion pills in states where they are illegal. [ABC News / Mary Kekatos] The state is now reviewing "all relationships" with the pharmacy chain; however, it's unclear what the specific changes could be. [Reuters] The FDA in January allowed retail pharmacies to dispense abortion pills. Last week, Walgreens said it would stop selling mifepristone in 20 states after receiving legal threats from Republican attorneys general. [NPR / Emily Olson] Walgreens released a statement Monday indicating it "plans to dispense mifepristone in any jurisdiction where it is legally permissible to do so." [NBC News / Rose Horowitch and Chloe Atkins] Meanwhile, a Texas federal judge is set to rule soon on a lawsuit challenging medication abortion, which accounts for more than half of US pregnancy terminations. [Washington Post / Niha Masih] France's pension reform protests Tuesday, French workers staged another round of nationwide protests against French President Emmanuel Macron's plans to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. [Reuters / Clotaire Achi and Stephane Mahe] Up to 1.4 million people joined more than 250 demonstrations, blocking fuel deliveries, closing schools, and limiting transport services. [BBC / Hugh Schofield and Paul Kirby] Macron argues the unpopular reforms will keep France's pension program running and align with other European countries with retirement ages of 65 or older. [France 24] French lawmakers will vote this month on the final legislation; unions are vowing to continue the strikes until the government calls off the reforms.
