Join AHRQ's Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Division - Apply by February 23, 2023

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) announces an exciting opportunity to join the Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Division as a Staff Service Fellow.  Duties include: managing the conduct of EPC evidence reviews on a broad range of clinical and healthcare delivery topics for a variety of requestors, including federal stakeholders and non-federal stakeholders such as clinical societies developing practice guidelines and PCORI; coordinating with stakeholders including PCORI to inform new topics and use of evidence reviews; developing research funding opportunities and managing grants in the areas of evidence synthesis, dissemination and implementation; and participation in Agency, Department and Government-wide initiatives in health policy and public health, among other opportunities.

The successful candidate should have knowledge and skills in health services research and evidence-based practice; and the ability to lead and coordinate projects involving the input of groups and individuals with differing interests and views.  A clinical background or graduate degree in public health or related fields is preferred.  Experience conducting or managing systematic reviews would provide excellent background for the role.

Systematic Review Now Available

Partial Breast Irradiation for Breast Cancer
(Systematic Review, released on January 31, 2023)

The review evaluates the comparative effectiveness and harms of partial breast irradiation (PBI) compared with whole breast irradiation (WBI) for early-stage breast cancer, and how differences in effectiveness and harms may be influenced by patient, tumor, and treatment factors, including treatment modality, target volume, dose, and fractionation. The relative financial toxicity of PBI versus WBI was also evaluated.

Opportunity to Comment on Draft Key Questions

We encourage the public to participate in the development of our research projects. Comments can be submitted for:

Treatment of Stage I-III Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) of the Anal Canal
(Available for comment until February 28, 2023)

The purpose of this review is to synthesize existing evidence on the comparative effectiveness and harms of different treatment modalities for stage I-III squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal.

Opportunity to Submit Scientific Information

The Effective Health Care (EHC) Program is interested in receiving supplemental evidence and data (SEADs) for systematic reviews that are relevant to the questions in our evidence reports. To ensure that it has full access to relevant research, whether or not it is published, the EHC Program is interested in receiving SEADs containing detailed study-specific information. Opportunities to submit scientific information are available for:

Behavioral Interventions for Migraine Prevention
(Available for submission until February 24, 2023)

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is collaborating with the American Headache Society (AHS) and Patient-Centered Outcome Research Institute (PCORI) to conduct a systematic evidence review on interventions for behavioral interventions for migraine prevention. The final Research Protocol will be used to guide a systematic review of the evidence by researchers at an Evidence-based Practice Center. The resulting systematic review will form the basis of the AHS clinical practice guidelines on this topic. The intended audience includes guideline developers, health system administrators, and clinicians who provide care to individuals with migraine (e.g., primary care providers, advanced practice practitioners, neurologists, and psychologists).

(Section 944 (c) of the Public Health Service Act [42 U.S.C. 299c 3(c)] requires that information collected for research conducted or supported by AHRQ that identifies individuals or establishments be used only for the purpose for which it was supplied unless they consent to the use of the information for another purpose.)
