People say, "you are what you eat," but maybe it should be "you are where you eat." Social and economic factors, such as where someone lives, have powerful influences on health. On Wednesday, December 9, at noon ET, Dr. Shannon Zenk, a leading population health scientist and Director of the National Institute of Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health, will present a free virtual lecture "All Health Is Not Created Equal: Where You Live Matters." In her talk, Dr. Zenk will explore the science behind social determinants of health and discuss the importance of integrative or multilevel approaches in addressing health and health inequities. Dr. Zenk's presentation is the 2020 Stephen E. Straus Distinguished Lecture in the Science of Complementary Therapies. This series of annual lectures was established to honor Dr. Straus, the founding director of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, who led the Center from 1999 to 2006. |
