INITIAL RITES  Black Nazarene devotees have started flocking to Quiapo Church in Manila to have their icons—and themselves—blessed ahead of the annual mammoth procession known as "traslacion" on Jan. 9, where about 14,000 police officers are being mobilized for security. Hi there. Marcos drops VP Sara, former Presidents from National Security Council

VP Sara Duterte is deemed "not relevant" to the responsibilities of the NSC "at the moment," per a Palace statement, thus further diminishing the VP's role in the Marcos administration, from which she had earlier bolted as Education chief.

Still on Sara: She may be facing a fourth impeachment rap, according to House officer Reginald Velasco who said some House members "are thinking of endorsing one of the three impeachment complaints filed earlier, or another complaint..."

January 9 has been declared a special non-working day in Manila for the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene, to ensure the "orderly procession of devotees and to facilitate the flow of traffic" for the yearly "Traslacion."

No, there is no "new pandemic" spreading around coming from China, said the Health department, denying false social media posts about it and asking Filipino netizens to prevent misinformation, panic, and confusion.

Standoff in Seoul: South Korea's political crisis is deepening, as presidential guards and soldiers prevented authorities from arresting impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol on Friday in a tense six hour face-off inside his compound.
