Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is highlighting data products the agency released during the month of October: Cost Report Public Use Files – Annual Update The Hospital Cost Report Public Use File (PUF) and the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Cost Report PUF were refreshed with updated data for years 2011-2021 and now include data for 2022. The Home Health Agency (HHA) Cost Report PUF was refreshed with updated data for years 2020-2021 and now includes data for 2022. These products were developed using the Healthcare Cost Report Information System (HCRIS) and provide external and internal stakeholders with a curated set of variables in a user-friendly format (e.g., more descriptive variable names). Each PUF is organized at the hospital or facility level and includes select measures such as hospital or facility characteristics, utilization measures, cost and charges by cost center (in total and for Medicare), Medicare settlement data, and financial statement data. Annual Refresh of the Restructured BETOS Classification System (RBCS) Taxonomy – Annual Update The Restructured BETOS Classification System (RBCS) is a taxonomy that allows CMS and the research community to group healthcare service codes for Medicare Part B services into clinically meaningful categories and subcategories. This refresh focused on Medicare Part B healthcare services between 2018 and 2023. Medicare Beneficiaries at a Glance Infographic – Annual Update The Medicare Beneficiaries at a Glance Infographic is a quick reference tool that presents a visual summary of key metrics for the Medicare population including information on types of coverage, utilization, average cost for specific services, chronic condition prevalence, beneficiary satisfaction and access to care, and usual source of care. The infographic now includes data for 2022. Medicare Enrollment – Monthly Update The Medicare Monthly Enrollment Public Use File and Medicare Enrollment Dashboard present counts of Medicare beneficiaries with hospital/medical coverage and prescription drug coverage by geographic area and now include enrollee counts for July 2024. |
