Hi there. House committee cuts OVP budget by over 60 percent


From the P2.03-billion budget for 2025 requested by VP Sara Duterte's office, the amount has been slashed by P1.3 billion, the House lawmakers targeting allocations for "redundant" and inefficient programs by Duterte who had twice snubbed the budget hearings.


Former Palawan Gov. Joel Reyes, the alleged mastermind of the 2011 killing of Puerto Princesa City radio journalist Gerry Ortega, surrendered to the NBI on Sept. 10 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Metro Manila, after more than a year on the run.


The only known manuscript copy of the 1898 Philippine Declaration of Independence — a handwritten reproduction of the original document in Spanish — will be auctioned tomorrow at the León Gallery in Makati City. Bidding starts at P1.6 million. 


The Department of Health warns that dengue cases have seen a continuous rise in cases nationwide, reaching almost 6,000 per week — higher than the 5,100 cases registered in 2019, the last time the DOH declared a national epidemic.


Today's editorial calls out President Marcos for shrugging off the Alice Guo selfie incident, a disappointing pronouncement that "tends to downplay the general sentiment that such actuation by public officials is inappropriate and should neither be condoned nor tolerated."
