Juneteenth

6/19/24 commemoration

On June 19th, we commemorate our newest federal holiday—Juneteenth. Let's all be sure to understand and reflect on the importance of this commemoration.  What is Juneteenth? The 1893 Emancipation Proclamation should have ended slavery in the United States. However, African Americans in Texas remained enslaved for another 2 ½ years until June 19, 1865. Juneteenth recognizes the date all enslaved African Americans were freed from slavery in the United States.  Learn More
