Following a "paranoid incident" in which they dialed 911 on themselves, two drug trafficking suspects were detained. The incident reportedly began when the suspects called 911 at around midnight to report being followed, according to the Hartley County Sheriff's Office. The dispatcher instructed them to meet with a deputy at the Hitchin Post in Hartley. The suspects stopped their pickup in the middle of Highway 87 before arriving at the gas station, got out, and raced "aggressively" toward the deputy's car. "They were ordered down on the ground, at gunpoint, and placed in handcuffs," said the sheriff's office. The suspects then told the deputy they had marijuana in their pickup. (read more)

If you ask me, there were quite a few political losers last year. If we listed all of them, we'd be here all day. But to save time, we've rounded up the top five losers of 2022 to discuss. Of course outgoing Republican Representative Liz Cheney made the list. In just two short years, Cheney went from hero to zero, with most of the damage to her reputation being done in 2022. Cheney not only lost her congressional race in late 2022, but it was due in part to her outspoken and controversial leadership of the January 6 committee - which is still largely seen as a waste of taxpayer money. Dr. Anthony Fauci also made the list - and pretty high up in the queue, I might add. His response to the pandemic is viewed less and less favorably every single day, and the way he continues to dodge pointed questions related to that really put him in an unfavorable light as 2022 came to a close. But who else made the small list of top political losers of the year? You might be surprised by who, and who isn't, included. (read more)

In a statement released on Friday, former President Donald Trump responded to the Democrats' decision to make public disclosure of his tax returns by claiming that "it's going to lead to horrible things for so many people." After waging a protracted legal battle for years in order to obtain the tax returns, the House Ways and Means Committee was finally able to get them released. The application that Trump submitted in October to prevent the committee from reviewing his tax returns was rejected by the Supreme Court in November. According to the report, the Democrats asked the committee to investigate whether or not the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) auditing system for presidents was followed when conducting a review of President Trump's tax returns. History demonstrates that mid-cap stocks outperform large- and small-cap equities while exhibiting superior volatility characteristics than the latter over extended holding periods. This year, the S&P MidCap 400 Index is outperforming both the S&P 500 for large-cap stocks and the S&P SmallCap 600 Index. Even Nevertheless, mid-caps are indeed disregarded despite all the positive enthusiasm. With the relative obscurity of mid-caps in mind and with 2023 fast approaching, market participants should remember that investing isn't a popularity contest. Instead, it's about generating returns. Over the long haul, mid-caps have accomplished that objective without fanfare comparable to more extensive and smaller equities. Plus, mid-cap stocks are currently offering investors attractive valuations – which isn't true across the large-cap landscape. Considering those factors, the following mid-cap ETFs could be worth considering in 2023. (read more) |
