| Join Global Health on Follow CII on | | | November 2022 | | FEATURE | | CII at Grand Challenges Annual Meeting: Highlighting climate consequences on health, innovation metrics | CII Director Amy Lin and Senior Innovation Advisor Rachel Wood were pleased to participate in key discussions at this year's Grand Challenges Annual Meeting (GCAM). GCAM aims to catalyze collaboration among researchers, funders, and other partners to accelerate innovation for impact in solving the world's most urgent global health and development problems. Amy Lin spoke on a panel with Grand Challenges Africa, Grand Challenges Canada, and Wellcome in the scientific track focused on "Novel Approaches to Reduce the Impacts of Climate Change on Health." This track emphasized the many interconnections between climate and health, spotlighting innovators focused on these issues in low- and middle-income countries. Amy highlighted CII's recently released report, Finding the Signal: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics at the Intersection of Climate and Global Health (check out our upcoming launch event on Dec 14th!). During a session entitled "Innovator Perspectives on Donor Results Frameworks: Piloting Flexible and Appropriate Impact Measurement Approaches for Grand Challenges", Rachel Wood shared CII's Innovation Index and Zika Grand Challenge evaluation. Rachel emphasized resources for measuring performance across different types of health innovation, which was important in a flexible, adaptive approach. | | | DIGITAL HEALTH | | | CII's Merrick Schaefer presents at Frontiers of Digital Development Forum | Senior Digital Health Advisor Merrick Schaefer presented on two panels at the Frontiers of Digital Development Forum. His first session used the Architects of Digital Health board game to engage participants in the room first to play it and then to discuss learnings and approaches to enterprise architecture in health. Schaefer's second event was a debate-style session where participants discussed the pros and cons of using AI and blockchain for health delivery in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The audience was involved in the lively discussion around these positions. The panels were composed of a members of the Ministry of Health of Zimbabwe, Palindrome, USAID's Office of HIV/AIDS (OHA), in addition to CII. | | MARKET ACCESS | | | CII's Nikki Tyler speaks at African Conference on Emergency Medicine | Deputy Director Nikki Tyler spoke at the 6th African Conference on Emergency Medicine to discuss global priorities on oxygen capacity building. The conference was hosted by the African Federation of Emergency Medicine and focused on the role of Emergency Medicine in Achieving Universal Health Care: Research, Education, Clinical Care. Other speakers at the meeting included Dr. Ebo Hammond, Director HASS of Ghana Health Services, Dr. Chris Owoo of Ghana Medical Services, and Dr. Bhakti Hansoti of Johns Hopkins University. Attendees included health directors, hospital managers, accountants, clinical engineers, doctors, nurses, and members of donor agencies. | | DIGITAL HEALTH | | | CII co-leads collaborative learning workshop on COVID-19 learning agenda | In collaboration with USAID's COVID-19 Response Team and Office of HIV/AIDS, CII co-led a daylong workshop with partners at Data.FI to advance collaborative learning as part of USAID's ongoing COVID-19 Learning Agenda. Participants in the workshop included digital and data systems monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) experts from CHISU, Data.FI, M-RITE, and PATH/Digital Square. The workshop is part of a larger effort to learn from a subset of central COVID-19 investments into country data/digital systems, and will be used to better understand what worked well in these digital and data investments, and how we can refine our approach moving forward. | | | | | | | | ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT | Monisha Ashok Associate Director, Health Initiatives at Development Finance Corporation (DFC) | | Monisha serves as the Associate Director for Health Initiatives at the Development Finance Corporation (DFC).
