House impeachment managers have transmitted the article of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate, triggering a trial to begin the week of Feb. 8.
The House impeached Trump on one charge of "incitement of insurrection" over the deadly attack on the Capitol that left five people dead. If convicted, the Senate could punish Trump by preventing him from ever holding federal public office again.
Senate leaders previously reached a deal to start proceedings in two weeks.
