2020 VET student outcomes data now available
The latest data from Australia’s largest survey of VET students is now available.
Students who had undertaken training in qualifications, short courses, and individual subjects took part, with over 250 000 students completing the survey in mid-2020.
Results from the survey show the most common reason for undertaking training in a qualification was to get a job, whereas for those enrolled in short courses or individual subjects, it was because it was a requirement of their job.
The report also provides information on how the COVID-19 pandemic affected students’ employment and further study outcomes, which will help state and federal governments in planning for recovery.

#NoFrills2021: Submit your abstracts now
2021 will be a big year as we celebrate 30 years of the National VET Research Conference ‘No Frills’.
We are seeking abstracts for presentations that explore the conference theme: Past informing the future.
The VET landscape has changed a lot over the past 30 years. More recently, COVID-19 has radically affected how we learn, work and live. While many have felt the negative impacts, we’ve also become more flexible and connected as we’ve adjusted to new modes of learning and working.
How can the past inform the future, and what role does VET play in our economic recovery?
Who can present? Practitioners, employers, industry, providers and researchers alike are invited to share their research and knowledge.
What can you present? Research can be either in progress or complete. Both early career and established researchers are encouraged to present, including those who are new to VET.
How will presentations be delivered? Presentations can be either pre-recorded or live, but will all be delivered virtually for this completely online event, eliminating the need to travel.
Submissions due: COB Monday 1 March 2021
Conference details: 7-9 July 2021, online event
