Congressional negotiators reached an agreement on a coronavirus assistance package, raising hopes that millions of Americans facing economic uncertainty will soon receive some relief.
The $900 billion deal will provide a second round of direct payments and boost unemployment benefits, but state and local aid and a liability shield won't be included.
The deal came after days of hard-fought negotiations over the Federal Reserve's lending powers, with a new government shutdown deadline on Sunday night.
