A growing body of research shows that listening to or making music can have both physical and psychological benefits.

Studies show that music-based interventions may help to relieve pain associated with a variety of health problems and medical procedures. They may also be helpful for anxiety and depression symptoms. For example, listening to recorded music has been shown to reduce anxiety in people who are waiting to have surgery.

Music has also shown promise in helping to manage symptoms of mild cognitive impairment or dementia. Music-based interventions may improve mood and quality of life in people with these conditions. They may also have a small benefit on cognitive function.
