In 2021, approximately one in five (21.5%) adults enrolled in Medicaid smoked cigarettes, resulting in a heavy burden of smoking-related disease and death. To address these concerns, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS) informational bulletin to highlight strategies that states have used to improve the delivery of tobacco cessation services to help more Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) beneficiaries quit smoking.
