The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) National Standards Group (NSG) would like to highlight its new Overview of Administrative Simplification one pager, located on the Administrative Simplification website. The new one pager details the vision and purpose of Administrative Simplification, its requirements, and how it enforces them. These requirements, part of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), govern how providers, health plans, and clearinghouses handle electronic administrative transactions and set privacy and security standards for transmitting health information. The one pager also includes links to resources that can help HIPAA covered entities comply with Administrative Simplification requirements, including NSG's subregulatory guidance tools. When covered entities comply with Administrative Simplification standards, they can automate many of their billing and payment processes, which allows the health care industry to reduce administrative burdens and save money.
