Teves: Suspect, 'terrorist,' now expelled lawmaker


With 265 members in favor and three abstaining, the House of Representatives voted on Wednesday night to expel Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. on several grounds, including abandonment of public office and indecent behavior. Except for the three-member Makabayan bloc who abstained, the lawmakers in attendance approved the 18-page report of the House committee of ethics and privileges recommending the removal of Teves.

New military outpost eyed to guard Philippine Rise


Plans are afoot in Isabela province to build a naval outpost in the coastal town of Divilacan to keep watch over Philippine (Benham) Rise, an undersea region in the country's eastern seaboard that is believed to contain huge natural gas deposits, according to Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr.

SC issues kalikasan writ vs Palawan mining


The Supreme Court has issued a writ of kalikasan (nature) against government agencies and private firms involved in mining operations on Mt. Mantalingahan in Palawan province, stressing that these pose "serious and irreversible" damage to the environment and communities.
