EU ready to bolster security ties with PH


The European Union is "ready to strengthen cooperation with the Philippines on maritime security," the head of the organization's executive branch said on Monday when she arrived in Manila for bilateral talks with President Marcos.

State of calamity in 16 Luzon areas


At least 16 areas across Luzon where Typhoon "Egay" (Doksuri) left a trail of destruction have been declared under a state of calamity. The official death toll climbed to 25 as of Monday, although the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said only two had been confirmed. Egay also affected around 2.3 million people across 13 regions and left P5.4 billion in infrastructure and agri- cultural damage.

Pension reform will be fair, MUPs told


Congress will not pass a pension reform measure that degrades the hard work and sacrifice of military and uniformed personnel (MUP) for the country, according to lawmakers who sought to allay apprehensions if the bill is enacted into law. Tingog Sinirangan Rep. Jude Acidre and House national defense and security panel chair Raul Tupas met with military representatives to "create a win- win solution for all."
