Sen. James Lankford, the senior senator from Oklahoma, has made religious freedom a key component of his political platform and contends that the White House is failing to uphold essential rights on the subject. Prior to being elected, Lankford worked as a Christian clergyman for 22 years. According to him, religious freedom encompasses far more than just the right to worship. He called attention in particular to a court case in which the University of Vermont Medical Center scheduled a nurse to help with an elective abortion despite being aware of her opposition to the practice. The Biden administration chose not to intervene in the situation. And despite a recent SCOTUS decision supporting religious freedom, it's clear that the Biden administration is likely to ignore the case. (read more) | |
