20,000 of those pills shown are enough to kill an entire metropolitan area. But when police arrested Manuel Pagan in the Chelsea section of Manhattan, he was released without bail. In the year 2020, New York implemented criminal justice reform legislation, part of which eliminated cash bail for most non-violent felonies and misdemeanors. So, I guess 20,000 pills specifically designed to attract and kill younger users isn't violent enough to count. What's even crazier is that the prosecutor for the case requested bail. So, why didn't the judge feel the same way? (read more)

The GOP knew they were in trouble when the anticipated Red Wave showed up as a mere Red Trickle. And now that newly-elected Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto has been elected, Democrats have maintained their control of the Senate. Democrats are having a field day with all of the good news. "Democrats will have a majority again in the Senate! This election is a victory and vindication for Democrats, our agenda and our accomplishments, and for America and the American people." That was a tweet by Chuck Schumer. "Regardless of what happens to the House, Democrats still have defied the odds and it's a big deal. My heart is filled with gratitude for our candidates, campaign staffers, voters, donators, state party leaders, DNC, DCCC, DSCC and grassroots orgs. We broke a huge trend y'all 🙏🏽" Those were the words of Ilhan Omar. So, knowing all of this, where do things currently stand in our push for control of the House? (read more)

NBC News and Fox News report that Democrats will keep control of the U.S. Senate because Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto beat Republican challenger Adam Laxalt to keep her Nevada seat. After 97% of the votes were counted on Saturday night, Cortez Masto was declared the winner. The incumbent was ahead of Laxalt by 48.7% to 48.2%. Both former President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis supported Laxalt. Senate Leadership Fund, which is linked to Mitch McConnell, spent $28 million on ads for Laxalt's campaign. With the Senate staying in Democrats' control, all eyes are now on the House. (read more)

Many investors had a terrible year last year. The S&P 500 has entered a bear market due to the economic unpredictability, and many growth stocks have seen their values drop by more than half. For instance, the share prices of these two stocks have fallen 56% and 67%, respectively, and both are now close to 52-week lows. Of course, nobody can predict when the recession will finish, but according to more than half of the experts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal, interest rates will start to decline by the first quarter of 2024. The economy might become less unpredictable, and the stock market might recover. Investors can take solace in the knowledge that every previous bear market has finally given way to a new bull market even if that doesn't happen. That indicates that the next bull market is almost certainly approaching. With that in mind, these stocks are trading at bargain prices compared to their historical valuations, and that creates a perfect buying opportunity for patient investors. (read more) |

A Florida high school employee is going public with her claims that a bible verse written on a parking space on the school's campus is "attacking" her. Marina Gentilesco, an instructional assistant at Wiregrass Ranch High School, says she is angered every single day she has to pass by the parking space to get to the school. Gentilesco says one of her colleagues parks there and put the verse on the parking space. While the school maintains that it is a form of self-expression, Gentilesco begs to differ. "I feel like it's attacking me as a Jew," Gentilesco explains. "You put it on a state-funded property…I'm not okay with it." So, which bible verse in particular is causing the stir? And how did district officials respond when Gentilesco went to them with her complaint? (read more) |

Twenty-nine-year-old Taylor Rene Parker from Texas was sentenced to death on Wednesday for the murder of 21-year-old pregnant woman Reagan Simmons-Hancock in October 2020. Parker's motivation for the crime was an attempt to take the unborn child from the mother's womb. "The circumstances in which Reagan died are horrible and there is no doubt it was torture. But a mother died fighting for her child, That's how she left the world. A woman who died fighting," said First Bowie County Assistant District Attorney Kelley Crisp. Jurors were shown graphic photos of the crime scene and took less than two hours of deliberating before sentencing Parker to death. Here's what Parker told authorities when she was pulled over for speeding after the incident and what happened to the child. (read more) |
