Workplace flexibilities, re-entry grants, data advancements and more

We're taking action to ensure that the future of work in America includes good jobs for all workers.  U.S. Department of Labor June 30, 2022 A conversation with business leaders about flexibility in the workplace Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh convened business leaders last week for a discussion about return-to-office, remote work and flexible working arrangements that can create a more inclusive future of work. In Arkansas, Walsh highlights the Good Jobs Initiative and announces a funding opportunity In Arkansas this week, Secretary Walsh joined Little Rock mayor Frank Scott Jr. and others for a panel discussion on efforts to support rehiring, job quality and labor force participation. Secretary Walsh highlighted the department's Good Jobs Initiative and announced a $50.6 million grant to offer workforce training and re-entry support to individuals who were formerly incarcerated. We're making up to $1 million in grants available through our Brookwood-Sago grant program to improve mine safety and health education and training. Growth opportunity grants We awarded $43,268,819 in grants to support programs that provide job training and supportive services to justice-involved young people. Massachusetts state plan approval OSHA is recommending approval of a Massachusetts State Occupational Safety and Health plan that would cover public employees. Employee retaliation A federal jury has awarded $650,000 in damages after finding that a Massachusetts employer and his company retaliated against an employee who reported an on-the-job injury. Flexible policies The pandemic has highlighted the benefits of family-friendly workplace policies. But not all workers have had equal access to job flexibilities. Settlement after investigation An Ohio contractor agreed to resolve litigation after an OSHA investigation into a worker fatality at a horse-riding facility. DATA SPOTLIGHT Employment trends of Asians, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders The Bureau of Labor Statistics is gathering national employment data on Asian, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander workers and sharing how labor market conditions for these groups continue to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
