Crime Without Punishment - Fighting for Justice
At a time when murder rates are on the rise across the country, overwhelmed police are closing fewer murder cases than at any time in recent American history. And the failure is even greater when the victim is Black. In this CBS Reports documentary, correspondent Jim Axelrod peels back the curtain on a sobering reality of a justice system in crisis: For roughly half of the people murdered in America, no one is arrested for the crime.

Per capita, Jackson, Mississippi has the highest murder rate in the nation. The FBI says homicide detectives can handle an average of up to six cases per year, but investigators in Jackson have three times that case load. And the loved ones of those that have been killed are resorting to investigating these crimes themselves, crying out for justice that increasingly never comes.
