The big picture: New safety inspection rules by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) have slashed commercial traffic as much as 60%, Axios Latino editor Astrid Galvรกn reports. - Mexico is the U.S.'s biggest source of agricultural imports.
- "Your inspection protocol is not stopping illegal immigration," Texas Agriculture Commissioner (R) Sid Miller warned in an open letter to Abbott. "It is stopping food from getting to grocery store shelves."
At least four border crossings have been blockaded by Mexican truck drivers who say the rules threaten their pay, Reuters reports. ๐จ Breaking: Abbott this afternoon unveiled a deal that would lift the rules at one of the 13 affected commercial crossings between Texas and Mexico, The Texas Tribune reports. - Abbott and Mexico's Nuevo Leรณn Gov. Samuel Alejandro Garcia Sepulveda agreed to have Mexican police do inspections, ending the Texas checks at the Colombia-Laredo bridge.
