Happy Birthday National Guard! Today we celebrate the birthday of the United States (U.S.) Army National Guard. On this day in 1636, the first militia regiments in North America were organized in Massachusetts. Join us in wishing our first fighting force a happy 385th birthday! U.S. National Guard is the oldest military organization in America, originating as militias in the 17th century to protect early settlers. Later, National Guard units were called Minutemen during the American Revolution due to their rapid response ability. As we commemorate the National Guard's rich past, we also recognize the caregivers who care for our Veterans. As caregivers, you serve our country by supporting those who served our great nation. On behalf of the Caregiver Support Program, happy birthday to the U.S. National Guard! | |
