Well, Good Morning!
Let's take a look at what the day has in store for us.
So, let's dig in, shall we?
Here's What You Need To Know... A "triple play" of weather hazards will unfold this week across the U.S. Make sure you're staying weather aware as a barrage of threats unfolds across the United States this week. From "bomb cyclones" to severe weather and nor'easters, this week holds a host of hazards from coast to coast.
In California, new evacuation orders have been issued for vulnerable locations near recent burn scars as a "bomb cyclone" ramps up power. An "atmospheric river" is set to send debris and floodwaters tearing through recently scorched earth, which could have devastating consequences. Additionally, several feet of snow in the mountains will make driving nearly impossible.
A severe tornado outbreak is possible for a large portion of the Midwest, with all the usual suspects up Tornado Alley in the crosshairs. And in the middle of the week, the same energy associated with the severe weather outbreak will translate to a powerful low pressure system known as a nor'easter along the East Coast of the U.S. by Tuesday and Wednesday.
The fallout of the tragedy involving Alec Baldwin on the set of the new movie Rust After the tragedy on the set of the new film Rust, where actor and co-producer Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed his cinematographer, and injured a director, many are advocating for Hollywood to stop using real guns on set. Craig Zobel, who directed Mare of Easttown, said that they used digital gunshots, adding that it was an "unnecessary risk" to use guns with blanks. On Thursday, Baldwin apparently fired the weapon he was given, not realizing there was an actual bullet inside.
A petition is now circulating that demands weapons be banned on sets. So far, almost 16,000 people have lent their signature to the effort. "We need to make sure that this avoidable tragedy never happens again," it says. "There is no excuse for something like this to happen in the 21st Century. [Alec Baldwin should] use his power and influence to [advocate for this ban]."
Meanwhile, a television producer for ABC's The Rookie has already vowed to ban real weapons from the set. And Baldwin's niece said her uncle was "heartbroken" over the "truly unimaginable" tragedy.
One of the most wanted drug lords in the world has been captured in a jungle raid Colombian security forces have captured the country's most wanted drug trafficker. Dairo Antonio Úsuga was a rural warlord who managed to evade capture for over ten years through corruption schemes. Colombian President Iván Duque likened the arrest Saturday of Dairo Antonio Úsuga to the capture three decades ago of Pablo Escobar.
Úsuga is better known in most circles by his alias Otoniel. He allegedly runs the Gulf Clan, which has gained control of major cocaine smuggling routes. Those routes run through thick jungles north to Central America and onto the U.S. He's long been a fixture on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's most-wanted fugitives list, for whose capture it had been offering a $5 million reward.
Leaks and a network of rural safe houses he supposedly moved among every night allowed him for years to resist a scorched-earth campaign by the military against the Gulf Clan. As he defied authorities, his legend as a bandit grew alongside the horror stories told by Colombian authorities of the many underage women he and his cohorts allegedly abused sexually.
Authorities said intelligence provided by the U.S. and U.K. led more than 500 soldiers and members of Colombia's special forces to Úsuga's jungle hideout, which was protected by eight rings of security. It's hard to know whether Úsuga's capture will impact the cocaine trade. Most experts seem to think that while demand for cocaine remains strong, it's likely there will be new "capos" rising to the top to replace Úsuga.
