| Broadway is back after an unprecedented 18-month shutdown. A New CBSN Originals documentary looks at how creatives on the stage and behind-the-scenes pivoted to survive. When the lights went out on Broadway, it wasn't just the performers that felt the fallout. Each show employs hundreds of people working behind the scenes - conductors, writers, stage hands, ushers, make-up artists, and wardrobe stylists - all of whom were out of work because the entire industry was shut down. And many of the back-up jobs they would normally turn to between shows - hotels, restaurants, other live events - had also dried up amid the pandemic. In the absence of a paycheck, many were forced out of their apartments or New York City completely. And with no outlet for their lifelong passion, many spent more than a year suspended between depression and hope.
