Well, Good Morning!
Let's take a look at what the day has in store for us.
So, let's dig in, shall we?
Here's What You Need To Know... Why Gen. Mark Milley is being accused of treason A new exposé book titled Peril was previewed on CNN, dropping a bombshell that may not be very surprising to those who have closely followed Trump's relationship with top General Mark Milley. In the wake of the Capitol riot, Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, allegedly took covert steps to prevent President Trump from potentially ordering a military strike or launching nuclear weapons.
Peril was written by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, two journalists highly regarded by many of their peers. Woodward and Costa write that Milley, deeply shaken by the Jan. 6 riot, "was certain that Trump had gone into a serious mental decline in the aftermath of the election."
These are the biggest announcements from the much-anticipated Apple event yesterday Yesterday, Apple hosted its hotly-anticipated unveiling of several new products, drawing an audience of more than two million viewers on YouTube. The CEO, Tim Cook, took the stage in an empty room, discussing the new releases, which included the iPhone 13, iPad, and the Apple Watch Series 7. One product that was notably absent from the lineup, however, was a new version of the company's AirPods. The company also boasted about an expansion of its workout streaming service, too, which brought shares of Peloton down slightly yesterday.
The biggest upgrade that comes with the iPhone 13 is a larger display, longer battery life, and, of course, the camera. The new version will be made of stainless steel, and will be available in five colors, including a new, "sierra blue" hue. The sizing options — either 6.1 or 6.7 inches — remain the same. They will be available for purchase on Friday, and are expected to ship on September 24.
How did the officers involved in George Floyd's death plead to this charge? A federal grand jury indicted Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, J. Kueng, and Tou Thao in May for allegedly depriving George Floyd of his rights while acting under government authority. It was this incident which first helped spark the Black Lives Matter movement, which has since been a source of divisiveness within the United States.
Derek Chauvin was convicted of unintentional second-degree murder related to the death of George Floyd. Due to aggravating factors, the judge sentenced Chauvin to 22.5 years in a maximum security prison. In addition to the prison time, Chauvin was barred from possessing firearms, must provide a DNA sample, and register as a predatory offender. The ex-officer was granted credit for 199 days already served.
The federal hearing for all four officers present at the time of Floyd's death is the latest event to take place in the ongoing saga. U.S. Magistrate Judge Tony Leung asked each man separately how he would plea, and each clearly responded: "Not guilty."
The hearing also addressed roughly 40 pretrial motions, though many were similar. Most of the motions were routine, such as agreeing when names of witnesses would be disclosed. But Leung heard oral arguments on two issues, and ordered attorneys to file additional written arguments on those motions.
