Dear Wall Street Daily Reader,

I predicted 2021 would be a record year for SPACs (special purpose acquisition companies).

And just a few months into the year, that record has already arrived:

Over 325 SPACs have already gone public, compared to 248 in all of 2020.

But I’m not here to opine on how high the SPAC tally will go by the end of the year. Instead, I want to focus on a single SPAC deal that’s making major headlines this week.

Why? Because I’m convinced it represents the official signal to start investing in the next trillion-dollar tech trend.

So let’s get to it…

These weird devices are about to appear all over America

According to America's top tech futurist – dubbed the "Tech Prophet" by Forbes – millions of these strange little devices are about to appear in every corner of our country… including your home.

What are they? And why did one tech insider with connections to Apple and Microsoft claim they'll "rewrite the rules of what's possible?"

Find out more right here.

Say Hello to Synthetic Biology

On Tuesday, a SPAC called Soaring Eagle Acquisition Corp. (SRNG) announced that it’s acquiring Bill Gates-backed Ginkgo Bioworks in a deal that values the company at an eye-popping $15 billion.

Ginkgo is a leading player in the synthetic biology industry, which I’m convinced is the next trillion-dollar tech megatrend.

The fact that it snagged such a high valuation — a record this year for any SPAC on the Nasdaq — proves the smart money agrees, too.

This group includes Putnam Investments, Bain Capital Public Equity, Berkshire Partners, Franklin Advisers, and T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., among other notable institutions.

So what’s all the excitement about synthetic biology?

I’ll tell you…

The Dawn of the (Biological) Computer Age

For those unaware, synthetic biology involves the application of engineering principles to living things.

Just like computers can do countless things simply by manipulating lines of 0s and 1s, synthetic biology does the same thing by manipulating the As, Ts, Cs and Gs of DNA code.

Or more simply, synthetic biology is all about programming cells to manufacture just about anything — molecule by molecule.

This includes drugs, building materials, food, fabrics, fertilizers, fragrances, and fuels, to name a few.

“The whole premise of the field is you can make molecules the way nature makes them, cleanly, sustainably, often from renewable resources,” notes Frances Arnold, a Nobel Prize-winning professor of chemical engineering, bioengineering and biochemistry at the California Institute of Technology.

Some notable examples of synthetic biology in practice include Ginkgo’s engineering of E. coli to produce perfumes for a fragrance company, biofuels for the Department of Energy, and key vaccine raw materials for Moderna, Inc. (MRNA).

As the McKinsey Global Institute revealed in its 200-page report, The Bio Revolution, there are already 400 use cases for synthetic biology across various sectors, including human health, food and agriculture, consumer products, and materials and energy.

The economic potential for those categories checks-in at — get this — a staggering $4 trillion per year over the next ten to 20 years, according to McKinsey.

Up, Up and Away

I expect McKinsey’s estimates to prove too conservative, though.

After all, we’re just scratching the surface of what can be done with synthetic biology.

Or as Ginkgo’s CEO Jason Kelly put it, the applications in synthetic biology today are akin to where we stood with computer applications in the 1950s.

“We’re in there, still fiddling with the wires like they were with IBM,” said Kelly. “When we actually get good at programming [biology], it’s clearly going to have this bananas range of applications, but people just don’t realize how bad we are at it today, versus how good we could get.”

Translation: decades-long mega growth lies ahead for this trend.

And make no mistake, the potential is already being realized by Ginkgo. The company should book over $150 million in revenue this year, and over $500 million in a couple of years.

“This is a rapidly growing company where the potential is not in the billions, it’s in the trillions,” says Bellco Capital’s Arie Belldegrun, who sold Kite Pharma to Gilead Sciences, Inc. (GILD) for $12 billion four years ago.

That might be a bit of an exaggeration. So don’t rush out to buy Soaring Eagle Acquisition Corp. (SRNG).

But definitely put the synthetic biology trend on your watch-list, and keep an eye out in this column for more undervalued recommendations…

Including one private company I’ve been tracking for years that should go public in the next 6 months.

Ahead of the tape,

He hasn’t tweeted this out just yet…

But he’s been hinting at it again and again…

And any day now (as soon as July 1st if my research is correct)...

Elon Musk is going to send one new technology sky-high.

It’s called VLEO.

And it could change the face of the entire globe.

According to my research, VLEO could:

  • Connect over 3 billion people on the planet…
  • Slash your cable bill by up to 98% (and put giant, extortionate telecom behemoths like Verizon and Comcast out of business in the process!)…

That’s the date when I believe VLEO will hit a crucial tipping point.

All thanks to Elon Musk himself.
