Tim here.  Do you have high expectations? If so, and you want to be a successful trader, then you'd better read this… We all have expectations. From an early age, we learn to expect certain outcomes. When things don't turn out as expected, we feel disappointed.  By the time we reach adulthood, most of us are slightly cynical.  We still have expectations, of course. But we know that sometimes things don't happen the way we want. In other words, we're prepared for a little disappointment. It's not so bad because, without disappointment, success wouldn't taste as sweet, right?  But in trading, having expectations can be a dangerous game. And it starts from day one…  If you expect overnight success you'll trade with the wrong mindset. You'll end up frustrated and be more likely to quit.   And don't expect to make a specific amount of money every day. It doesn't work that way. The same goes for each week, month, or year. Trading isn't a 9-to-5 with a salary. You might make nothing at first. (True story: Tim Grittani didn't make anything for nine months.)   What about patterns? Surely, once you learn a pattern, you've got it nailed, right? Not so fast. I've been trading the same patterns for two decades, but every trade is different. And a pattern is only ONE indicator.    The same goes for other indicators. Time of day, your personal schedule, the catalyst, liquidity, past performance… Can you imagine trying to calculate each of those in real time expecting it to be an exact science? You'd never get anywhere.  But here's the thing...  You should still have high expectations. You just need to shift your focus.  So what should you focus on?  Build your knowledge account first. There's no need for unrealistic expectations. Commit to learning something new every day. Commit to reviewing something you already know every day. Over time it's a foolproof method.   Come prepared for battle. Trading is a battlefield. Too many people show up to the battle with no armor, the wrong tools, and ZERO strategy. You MUST prepare for every trade.  Develop consistency. Experience is necessary. You won't get consistent until you've logged enough screen time. It takes looking at hundreds, if not thousands of charts. You have to learn how news catalysts affect stock prices. And you have to witness it.
