Your Saturday Stoic Review — Week of November 25-December 1
Every $1 donated provides 10 meals to those who need it. It only takes a little to make a big difference.
We donated the first $30,000, and we'd like your help in reaching our goal of $300,000. If we hit that goal of $300,000, it would provide over 3 MILLION meals for families across the country.
Just head over to dailystoic.com/feeding and together we can make a significant dent in a large problem.
PASSAGE OF THE WEEK:
It's weird. It's unnatural. It's not how you'd like things to be. But so what? Welcome to life. Welcome to all different types of things in life, not just fame. You gotta figure out what you like about it. You gotta figure out what's interesting about it, what's possible with it. And then you gotta get to work.
In a recent video on the Daily Stoic YouTube channel, Ryan Holiday shares a Thanksgiving-themed Stoic meditation on finding perspective and practicing gratitude this holiday season:
"Everything that has happened and is happening is bringing you to where you are. It's contributing to the person you have become, and that's a good thing. This understanding, Epictetus says, 'helps you see the world in full color'— in the color of gratitude."
In a recent episode of The Daily Stoic Podcast, Ryan Holiday speaks with documentary filmmaker Ken Burns on the significance of Stoicism among the Founders, the inspiring legacy of Da Vinci, and the nuances of accurately portraying history:
"There's not a filmmaker, myself included, that, when a scene is working, wants to touch it. We're always finding stories that are the superimposition of a form on the wild and uninformed human experience, but then you'll find something that contradicts it—and people tend to not go there. I just want to reinforce it, to say that it's ok to destabilize a working scene in order to serve a larger thing, which is this nuanced and complicated portrait of the United States."
