'VICTORY' OF 2016   Former President Rodrigo Duterte once called it "just a piece of paper" of no weight in the face of China's might. But on Thursday a giant outdoor ad display seen from Edsa in Mandaluyong City celebrates the July 12, 2016, arbitral ruling voiding Beijing's claim to almost the entire South China Sea, including the country's exclusive economic zone. —GRIG C. Hi there. Marcos vetoes PNP reform bill, citing many flaws

While he said his administration "recognizes the laudable objectives of the bill," President Marcos has vetoed the proposed law reorganizing the Philippine National Police, due to several provisions that "run counter to administrative policy and efficiency."

Not only did VP Sara Duterte declare on Thursday that she would be skipping President Marcos' third State of the Nation Address on July 22, she also said she was appointing herself the "designated survivor" — a remark that left some House members unamused.

Should people knock on your door claiming they're conducting a government census, check that they're actually part of the nationwide census being conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority starting July 15, with some 70,000 census takers to be deployed.

NATO is arming Russia-battered Ukraine with F-16 jets, along with promises on Kyiv's eventual membership in the alliance. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the aircraft will "bring just and lasting peace closer, demonstrating that terror must fail."

In Opinion, columnist Ma. Ceres Doyo writes about a planned march by residents of posh Ayala Alabang to protest the presence of "bodyguards and POGOs" in their village, saying they are "outraged by the deteriorating peace and order situation" in their community.

India seen easing rice import curbs; PH to win big – Nomura

Rice prices in the Philippines are expected to fall further as India is looking to ease restrictions on its rice exports thus bringing down global prices of the key staple, according to a report by Nomura. "We expect the Philippines to be the biggest winner in Asia, given the high share of rice in its consumer price index basket, its dependence on rice imports and recent rice import tariff reductions."
