President Marcos is asking for P1.408 billion to fund his local and foreign trips next year, a 58-percent jump from his 2023 travel allocation that Malacañang justified with the amount of investment pledges that followed from abroad and the increase in the number of invitations he has received from governments and foreign groups.

Medalla, Diokno gov't's highest paid 


According to a Commission on Audit report on the salaries of government officials, former Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Felipe Medalla and Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno were the two highest paid officials of the Marcos administration last year. Medalla received a total of P34.1 million in salaries, allowances and emoluments while Diokno got P28.8 million. The rest of the top 10 were from the central bank.

DOH reminder: PH not a tobacco hub


The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reminded the country's economic managers that promoting the Philippines to investors as a manufacturing hub for heated tobacco products runs counter to government policies that aim to protect the population from tobacco-related illnesses. The DOH was reacting to statements made by a trade undersecretary during a business summit on Wednesday.

Keeping Bulacan afloat


Reports that heavy rains and flooding have repeatedly destroyed flood control projects in the province should prompt the DPWH to strictly monitor their construction to ensure that these structures adhere to the highest construction standards and use quality building materials. Contractors of such failed projects should be investigated and blacklisted if proven to have sacrificed the project's integrity for profit, or worse corruption.
