MANILA, Philippines — Aid is pouring in from the international community to help families and communities hit hard by Egay (international name: Doksuri), even as a new storm on the trail of that typhoon continues to pour heavy rain on Northern Luzon and other parts of the country.

Makabayan: Not so fast on MUP budget


House Deputy Minority Leader Rep. France Castro said she and other members of the Makabayan bloc in the House of Representatives would scrutinize the pension system for military and uniformed personnel (MUP) during the deliberations on the 2024 national budget, to ensure that the benefits go to deserving pensioners. She noted that the pension budget would reach P300 billion.

P12.5M in coins back in circulation


The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) was able to bring back as a medium of exchange a total of P12.5 million worth of coins through coin deposit machines (CODMs) launched in select malls since June 20. BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said the CODMs were intended to put idle coins back in circulation by encouraging consumers to convert these into vouchers or e-wallet credit.
