Justin Jones to the Tennessee legislature days after House Republicans ousted him for participating in a gun protest. [NBC News / Safia Samee Ali and Rose Horowitch] Local officials in Memphis could reinstate Rep. Justin Pearson, who was also expelled, on Wednesday. Jones and Pearson, who are both young and Black, were expelled for violating decorum rules. [CNN / Nouran Salahieh] The expulsions sparked national attention over racism and gun control. Rep. Gloria Johnson, who participated in the protest and is white, avoided being ousted. [Associated Press] Jones vowed to continue calling for gun reforms in the wake of a Nashville school shooting in March that left six dead, including three children. [Vox / Nicole Narea] Myanmar military strikes kill dozens The Myanmar military on Tuesday launched airstrikes against political opponents in a town in the northwestern Sagaing region. At least 53, but as many as 100 people, including children, were killed. [Guardian / Min Ye Kyaw and Rebecca Ratcliffe] A jet reportedly dropped several bombs as people celebrated the opening of an anti-junta political office in a town that set up its own government in the wake of the military's 2021 coup. The attack was followed by 20 minutes of helicopter gunfire. Amnesty International has urged governments to stop supplying aviation fuel to the Myanmar junta over the bombings.
